Muse Magazine, a vibrant, Lowveld-owned publication celebrating the essence of South Africa with a tapestry of uplifting, intriguing and downright exciting tales, is celebrating its third birthday.

What started as a quirky project during Covid-19 has blossomed into a lifestyle magazine dedicated to informing, inspiring and entertaining readers.

This woman-owned-and-run small business is based in the picturesque White River, Mpumalanga, but spreads its wings across South Africa through its editions in print and interactive digital formats.

We have seen everything from riots delaying our distribution to load shedding impacting our print schedule, botched bar codes, missing delivery trucks and more.

Each edition offers content across its five pillars: Review (unveiling the latest and greatest in style, fashion, kids, technology, décor, literature, and wellness), Design (exploring architecture, art, and design profiles), Feast (indulging in the world of food and wine), Wanderlust (discovering the beauty of South African destinations), and People (spotlighting inspiring individuals who dazzle, captivate, and leave us in awe).

“It has been a rollercoaster these 36 months,” says Nicky McArthur, publisher and editor-in-chief.

“Sometimes it feels like for every step forward, we take five steps back. We have seen everything from riots delaying our distribution to load shedding impacting our print schedule, botched bar codes, missing delivery trucks and more.”

Muse Magazine is distributed across South Africa, from the big cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban to charming dorpies like Parys, Sabie and Oudtshoorn and coastal gems like Knysna, East London, Langebaan and Umhlanga.

I am incredibly proud of what my team and I have achieved and hope we can continue to create great content and share it as widely as possible, while at the same time promoting this wonderful country we live in.

“Our subscription base has flourished too, and we are now gracing the guest rooms of 124 hotels and lodges across South Africa, as well as airport lounges.

“What sets Muse apart is our unique blend of niche local content. Our diverse range of topics caters to a wide audience,” Nicky says.

Muse boasts both print and digital editions.

“For me, there’s nothing better than opening a new magazine – the touch, the smell. But we also understand that some readers prefer going online, and Muse Digital is free-to-read on our website, www.musemagazine.co.za,” says Nicky.

Nicky’s success with the magazine led to her being nominated for the South African Council for Business Women (SACBW) recognition awards.
