This volunteer-led initiative will provide free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries to children and young adults, transforming lives and restoring confidence one smile at a time.
Since 2006, Operation Smile South Africa has been committed to increasing access to safe, effective surgical care for patients born with cleft conditions. This July, a team of local and international medical volunteers will unite to deliver world-class care at no cost to families in need.

In addition to the surgical programme, Operation Smile will run a free dental-care weekend on 26 and 27 July, also hosted at Rob Ferreira Hospital. The dental outreach focuses on paediatric patients and will provide a full range of essential oral health services including dental exams, cleanings, extractions, restorations, hygiene education, fissure sealants, and baby tooth root canals (pulpotomies). Services will be offered on a first come, first served basis at the hospital’s dental department.
