Operation Shanela II yields over a thousand arrests across Mpumalanga over the weekend

Police in Mpumalanga arrested over a thousand people for serious offences between 6 and 8 August as part of Operation Shanela II.

The offences include illegal immigration, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, drug-related crimes, assault, robbery, murder, rape, illegal mining and firearm-related crimes.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula says police also seized firearms, ammunition, explosives, dangerous weapons, various drugs, alcohol, counterfeit goods, precious metals, copper cables, vehicles, electronic devices and cash.

The operation focused on combating crime, tracing wanted suspects, enforcing compliance and strengthening police visibility through searches, patrols, roadblocks, checkpoints and inspections.
