KNP security intercepts 40kg of suspected dagga at Malelane Gate

Security officials at the Kruger National Park (KNP) have intercepted approximately 40kg of suspected dagga at the Malelane Gate.

The bust happened on Sunday, 27 September, during ongoing security access control at the Malelane Gate – one of the main entry points to the KNP on the Mpumalanga side.

According to information, security guards stopped a vehicle belonging to a park concessionaire and discovered the suspected cannabis inside.

The discovery was made as part of routine security and access-control measures aimed at safeguarding the park and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.

The suspected cannabis was confiscated, and the matter has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.

SANParks spokesperson JP Louw confirmed the incident and said SANParks maintains a zero-tolerance approach to any unlawful activities within its national parks and associated operations.

“SANParks remains committed to supporting law-enforcement efforts to combat criminal activity. As the matter is now under police investigation, we will not be commenting further at this stage,” said Louw.

No arrests have been confirmed yet. The police investigation is ongoing.
