The three trucks caught fire on impact. The drivers escaped unharmed.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, says there is an increased number of trucks travelling towards the Port of Maputo and the increase has impacted traffic flow, with many drivers spending considerable time in long queues.

Some truck drivers have been caught trying to skip the queue by dangerously overtaking and driving into oncoming traffic.

“While we understand the frustration of being in queues for longer hours, no individual has the right to drive in front of oncoming traffic. This is not only unlawful, but it also endangers the lives of other road users. Our traffic law-enforcement officers are deployed at the Lebombo Border Post to deal with any person disregarding the rules of the road or displaying reckless behaviour,” he says.
