Both teams were crowned the Mpumalanga winners. They will represent the province at the national competition that will be held in Johannesburg from 24 to 26 October.
In addition to both teams walking away with gold, two speakers were also lauded for their abilities.

Malebo Seretlo (Grade 9) was crowned as best junior speaker while Oratile Muloiwa (Grade 10) was awarded as best senior speaker.
Zanokuhle Mnisi was awarded third-best senior speaker and all the other speakers were part of the top 20.
Monique van Heerden, Bergvlam’s debate organiser and coach, says this is the second consecutive year the senior team won, while it was the juniors’ first year on top.
“The word ‘proud’ does not begin to encompass what I truly feel. These two teams showed up, stood their ground and never backed down,” she says.
“No matter how challenging the topic or how tough the opposition, they debated their hearts out and gave everything they had.

“They represented our school with determination, courage and passion, and proved exactly why they are worthy to be champions,” Van Heerden says.
Bergvlam also thanks and congratulates Mrs Rehta Botha and Ms Helen Marler who coached the junior and senior teams respectively.
