The Triton Bi-Turbo boasts enhanced power, sportier styling and the addition of the Mitsubishi Safety Sensing suite.

“It builds on the Mitsubishi Motors heritage of durability, reliability and off-road capability, while offering enhanced performance, refined driving dynamics and advanced technology.,” says Lerato Nonyane, general manager of marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

“The updates to the 2026 Triton range will ensure that this model continues to perfectly caters for the needs of South African bakkie customers while remaining competitive in a rapidly evolving bakkie market.”

A sporty exterior

The Triton Bi-Turbo combines sporty elements with Mitsubishi’s robust design to create an imposing look while expressing the toughness expected of a bakkie, she says.

The frontal design concept, which incorporates the Dynamic Shield, is optimised with a powerful form that incorporates a robust, three-dimensional front grille, fenders and lower protector. The daytime running lights incorporate three L-shaped LED lights that resemble the sharp haze of a hawk which in combination with the three-dimensional three-light headlights below, give the Triton Bi-Turbo an overwhelming presence.

This is continued along the side with large solid surfaces. T-shaped taillights emphasise the width of the sturdy rear end.

Additional standard features fitted to the Triton Bi-Turbo include roof rails, a styling bar, an assisted rear tailgate and heated door mirrors.

A substantial performance increase

The Triton Bi-Turbo has been treated to a significant power upgrade thanks to the fine tuning of the 2,4-litre 4N16 DI-DC engine and its variable-geometry turbo. This has resulted in impressive performance gains that include enhanced power and torque outputs of 150kW at 3 500rpm and 470Nm between 1 500 and 2 750rpm. The more powerful engine is mated to the six-speed automatic transmission, and this model will be available exclusively as a 4×4 derivative.

An enhanced safety offering

The fitment of the Mitsubishi Motors Safety sensing suite brings with it a long list of driver assistance features and elevates the safety to a completely new level.

These systems include adaptive cruise control (ACC) with steering switch, automatic high beam (AHB), forward-collision-mitigation system (FCM) with pedestrian detection, lane-change assist (LCA), Rear-cross traffic alert (RCTA), lane-departure warning (LDW), blind-spot warning (BSW), parking sensors (front and rear). The Triton Bi-Turbo also benefits from the fitment of a multi-around monitor.

GLS goes dark

The Triton GLS has also been treated to numerous exterior enhancements that modernise its look. These changes are centred around the removal of all chrome elements in lieu of blacked out accents.

The fog-lamp bezels, door handles and sidestep as well as the rear gate handle and garnish are now finished in material black. The front bumper garnish, rear bumper, door mirrors and 18-inch alloy wheels now feature a metallic black look. The inner housing of the rear combination lamp has also been blacked out to fit with the overall theme.

“In combination these updates drastically accentuated the Triton’s beast mode styling.

“The Triton Bi-Turbo and updated GLS represents the next step in the brand’s commitment to delivering vehicles that have been engineered to suit both business and lifestyle applications, and that cater to customers that require versatility, capability and everyday comfort,” says Nonyane.
