Police arrest 1 575 in Mpumalanga during Operation Shanela II

Police arrested 1 575 suspects in Mpumalanga between 21 and 24 May for various offences as part of Operation Shanela II.

The offences included murder, attempted murder, rape, assault, drug dealing, possession of drugs, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, burglary, illicit mining and illegal trading in liquor.

Police also arrested illegal migrants and wanted suspects linked to various crimes.

During the operation, police conducted stop-and-search operations, roadblocks, patrols, tracing operations and compliance inspections, Mpumalanga police spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula says.

Police further confiscated and recovered firearms, ammunition, drugs, counterfeit goods, precious metals, vehicles, illegal cigarettes, liquor and dangerous weapons.
