During an operation conducted in Pilgrim’s Rest, police arrested four undocumented foreign nationals aged between 21 and 36 years. The suspects are facing charges related to Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa as well as possession of suspected gold-bearing material and equipment.
In a separate operation conducted in Ngodwana, police arrested 16 suspects aged between 19 and 43 years. Twelve of the suspects were arrested for Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa, as well as possession of suspected gold-bearing material and equipment.

Two were arrested for dealing in dagga and possession of illicit cigarettes and one was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. A preliminary investigation linked the firearm to a robbery in Gauteng. Fines were also issued during the operation for contravention of the Liquor Licensing Act.
During a second operation in Pilgrim’s Rest, two suspects, both aged 35, were arrested for possession of gold-bearing material and equipment, and the contravention of the immigration act.

Police spokesperson Mpho Nonyane-Mpe says police have confiscated generators, pendukas, jackhammers, gold-bearing material and equipment, a firearm with ammunition and dagga during the operations.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear before their respective local magistrates’ courts in due time.
