Mattewis made history by being the last and only cat left at the Barberton SPCA.
“We really think that a historic figure deserves such as Mattewis derserves a furever home. He is a healthy, friendly, gentle soul and will fit in perfect with any fur-loving family. Please contact our office at 013 753 3582 for more information on adopting him,” Lize Pienaar, chairperson of the Nelspruit SPCA said.
The Barberton SPCA recently announced its permanent closure at the end of February.

“It is well-known that we could no longer stay at our present premises, which means we would have tofence new land and rebuild a kennel facility. This was beyond our financial means. There hads been no response to our land application from Mbombela municipality, nor any payment of outstanding pound fees for 2019 and 2020 as negotiated.
“Please take note that from the end of February we will not be able to render any more services to the Umjindi. The execution of the bylaws thus revert back to the municipality and cruelty cases can be reported to the Nelspruit SPCA ,” the organisations said in a statement.
