GWM updates SUV line-up with Tank500 Black Edition

When GWM South Africa launched the Tank500 just over a year ago, it was arguably one of the most attractive SUVs on the market. The Tank500 offering has now been expanded with the launch of the Black Edition.

A gloss-black mesh grille, dark-chrome roof rails, blacked-out exterior mirror caps and 18-inch black alloy wheels are part of the aesthetic upgrade to the Tank500. Premium black Nappa leather surfaces are accentuated with subtle dark-metal trim and ambient lighting.

“The Tank 500 already leads in power, comfort and technology,” says Floyd Ramabulana, head of marketing at GWM South Africa. “Now its design reflects that same leadership. It is bold, modern and unmistakably forward-thinking. This update goes beyond style – it is about making a statement.

The Tank500 2.0T HEV produces 255kW and 648Nm and accelerates from 0-100km/h in just over eight seconds – no mean feat for an all-wheel drive SUV that weighs just over 2,6 tonnes. GWM claims that, thanks to its hybrid powertrain, it offers fuel efficiency of 10,5l/100 km in the mixed cycle. The advanced four-wheel-drive system with MLock ensures confident traction and control across varied terrains.

Ramabulana says the cabin offers a sanctuary of comfort and craftsmanship.

“Premium upholstery, intuitive infotainment, and a suite of advanced safety systems enhance every journey. The seven-seater configuration prioritises space, versatility, and convenience, making the Tank 500 ideal for families with a taste for luxury and exploration.

“Whether navigating the city with ease or escaping for a weekend adventure, the Tank 500 caters to drivers who expect more from their SUV. Intelligent driver assistance, premium interior detailing, and thoughtful design elevate the ownership experience, offering a balance of practicality and indulgence,” he says.
