DA Mpumalanga spokesperson on community safety, security and liaison, Teboho Sekaledi, says this technology will go a long way towards addressing the serious issues at the Lebombo border post.

The drones will ensure that the capacity shortfall experienced by the BMA is made up for through the use of modern technology.

Drones and body cameras will help secure the Lebombo border post and tackle corruption.

“The BMA’s lack of capacity is often exploited by those with ill intentions who want to break South African immigration laws and traffic illicit goods across our borders. The initial four drones must be put to effective strategic use, and we look forward to the procurement of many more,” he says.

Similarly, the implementation of 40 body-worn cameras will drastically reduce corruption at the Lebombo border post.

Sekaledi says DA councilors in the Nkomazi Local Municipality recently received reports from locals that corruption is rife at the Lebombo Border Post.

“The DA in Mpumalanga welcomes this adoption of technology to solve the pressing issues our country is faced with, particularly at the Lebombo border post, a port of entry rife with challenges,” he says.
