Tourism agency invites stakeholders to join tourism-safety campaign and environmental clean-up

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), in partnership with strategic stakeholders, will host a tourism-safety campaign and environmental clean-up initiative aimed at enhancing visitor safety and preserving the province’s natural beauty.

The initiative brings together stakeholders from the tourism industry, private sector, traditional-leadership structures, law-enforcement agencies, and community volunteers. The environmental clean-up campaign will focus on the R535 tourism route leading to Paul Kruger Gate, ensuring that this key tourism corridor remains clean, attractive and welcoming to visitors.

MTPA spokesperson Simphiwe Shungube says Mpumalanga continues to position itself as one of South Africa’s safest tourism destinations.

“Through ongoing collaboration with the police, the private sector, traditional leaders and local communities, the MTPA remains committed to creating a safe and secure environment for both domestic and international tourists,” he says.

The events will take place on 30 June 2026 and are scheduled as follows:

Environmental clean-up campaign 

  • Venue: R535 Road towards Paul Kruger Gate 
  • Time: 09:00 

Tourism-safety campaign  

  • Venue: Sanibonani Hotel, Hazyview 
  • Time: 09:00 

Tour operators, taxi associations, traditional leaders, local pastors, and members of the media are invited to attend and participate in this important event. Members of the media are also invited to cover the event.
