Mpumalanga police arrests 1 000 people during Shanela operation

More than one thousand people across Mpumalanga were arrested as part of Operation Shanela II between 18 and 21 June.

They were arrested for various offences, including liquor and drug-related crimes, violent crimes, illegal immigration, illicit mining, and offences involving firearms and ammunition.

The operation involved search operations, roadblocks, patrols, compliance inspections and tracing of wanted suspects.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula says police also recovered and confiscated firearms, ammunition, liquor, drugs, contraband goods, counterfeit items, precious metals, vehicles and other items linked to criminal activities.
