Operation Vala Umgodi consists of a multidisciplinary team from different police units acting against illegal mining.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane says police were conducting stop and searches on Kruger Street in Barberton when they apprehended the group of five suspects who could not produce valid documentation to be in South Africa.

The suspects were charged with contravening the Immigration Act of South Africa and they are expected to appear at the Barberton Magistrate’s court today.
