Operation Vala Umgodi is a multidisciplinary team comprising different police units acting against illegal mining.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane, 20 of the suspects were charged for contravening the Immigration Act, while three were charged for possession of gold-bearing material.

Gas cylinders, gold-bearing material and illegal mining equipment were confiscated during the operation.
The suspects are expected to appear at the Sabie Magistrate’s court tomorrow.
