According to Mpumalanga police spokespersonCaptain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, the suspects, aged between 19 and 54, were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act, possession of suspected gold and possession of mining equipment. Abandoned illegal mining equipment was found and confiscated during the operation.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
Detectives are working with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain the immigration status of the suspects.
