Are you looking for a new adventure or itching to start hiking, but you’re uncertain where to go, or how to start? Come join us on a four day guided journey that takes you on a scenic trek through the hidden pockets of indigenous forest, natural stone mazes, and vast undulating grasslands of the Kaapschehoop escarpment.

Starting in the misty mountain village of Kaapschehoop that was born of the 1880s gold rush, the Kaapschehoop Klein Camino offers intimate, curated hiking experiences to both experienced and inexperienced hikers. Daily distances range from 10km to 15km with an emphasis on regular stops to marvel at the beauty of the environment, have a snack or to smell the wildflowers.

From cliff to kloof – the Kaapschehoop Klein Camino will take you on a scenic trek through the hidden pockets of indigenous forest, natural stone mazes, and vast undulating grasslands.

Steeped in a rich history and brimming with natural splendour, the 47km circular route offers hikers an array of fauna and flora to enjoy. In the summer, pink Watsonia flowers are in full bloom and in spring sugarbushes adorn the hills around the town. Impressive yellow wood, knob, wild fig and white stinkwood trees line the indigenous forests through which the trail winds.

If you’re lucky you might also come across the elusive wild donkeys and horses that roam the hills around Kaapschehoop.

Each evening’s accommodation offers a mix of rustic, yet comfortable amenities. A night spent in a Teepee tent along the headwaters of the Noordkaap river is but one of the unforgettable experiences you can look forward to. For the thrill seekers the route offers ample opportunity to take a plunge in a mountain stream, spring, dam or pool.
