As always, the Ford brand was well represented, like Dean Badenhorst’s 1972 Ford Fairmont GT in the feature photo above.
Martie van Vuuren’s 1948 Ford F1 bakkie in the top three photos has undergone quite the customisation, but Ford fanatics might frown at the Chevrolet 350 engine and gearbox… Above left is Piet de Wet’s Ford Model A Phaeton. Above right is Koos Kruger’s 1968 Ford Mustang with the 289 cubic inch (4,7-litre) motor.
Visitors to Bateleur were again treated by these beauties from the Herman Nel Collection.
In the top row is the 1957 Ford Fairlane Club Victoria. In the middle row is the 1957 Ford Thunderbird. Above left is a 1963 Lincoln Continental; in the middle is a 1948 Mercury Eight; and above right is a 1947 Cadillac Series 62.
The show also had exotics from Bavaria:
At the top is Leon vd Berg’s “bubble car”, a 1955 BMW Isetta 300. Above is Dirk Kidson’s exotic 1967 BMW 2000CS.The Excellion Trust showed its 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, from the era of tailfins and lots of chrome.
On the other end of the size and weight scale, is the Excellion Trust’s 1974 Citroën 2CV6 Special.At the top is Peet Wessels’s 1969 Chevrolet C10 bakkie, powered by an LS1 motor from the sporty Corvette. Above left is the 1975 Chevrolet El Camino that belongs to Ken Grossmith. Above right is Henry van Zyl’s 1938 Chevrolet.Above left is Gerhard Nel’s beautiful 2005 AC Cobra (powered by Chevrolet). Above in the middle is Willem Lourens’s 1984 Datsun 280ZX. The Motorcycle Museum at Casterbridge showed these beauties at Bateleur:
Top left are two Honda motorcycles that started the Superbike class: The green CB750 K2 and behind it a later CB750K. Top right is a 1975 Suzuki GT550. Above is the stunning Tornado Custom in classic racer style.
The Lowveld Motorcycle Safety Initiative (LMSi) was at the car show too, speaking to visitors about road safety and rider training, while being kept company by three beautiful Royal Enfield modern classics.
