Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane says the operation took place after credible information was received regarding suspects who were driving on the R537 between Sabie and White River. Their truck was intercepted, and a search was conducted, resulting in the recovery of gold-bearing sand on the back of the truck. The truck was also seized. The value of the gold-bearing material is estimated at over R2 million.

The suspects have been charged with the possession of gold-bearing material and three of the suspects were also charged for contravening the Immigration Act of South Africa.

The four are expected to appear at the Sabie magistrate’s court tomorrow.
