According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the attacks on underage victims took place over a 13-year period from April 2009 to March 2022. He was arrested on 7 June 2023.
Details of Fankomo’s rapes of young girls were presented in court.
On 29 April 2009, Fankomo forced a nine-year-old girl into the bushes as she walked to her uncle’s house in Haxiview and raped her.

On 27 October 2021, he told and eight-year-old child in Masoyi that her mother had sent him to accompany her to buy a chicken, only to lead ger to a secluded area where he raped her.
In November 2021, Fankomo approached a nine-year-old girl at the market in Calcutta, assaulted her in an isolated spot, and later raped her.

In March 2022, he raped an 11-year-old girl in Calcutta, forcing her and her younger siblings into an unfinished house, where he held them hostage while raping the 11-year-old.
Fankomo was also sentenced to 18 years in prison on a rape charge in June 2010. He was released on parole in April 2019.
