Nine-year old drowns during day visit to Skukuza

The South African National Parks (SANParks) management conveyed its condolences to the family of a nine-year-old boy who drowned while visiting the Kruger National Park (KNP) with his family.

The incident took place at the Skukuza day-visitor area late in the afternoon on Saturday.

According to reports from the security officer on duty, he noticed the boy floating in the pool while he was doing his rounds. He jumped into the pool, pulled him out and performed CPR while waiting for medical assistance. Unfortunately, the patient was pronounced deceased by the Skukuza residential doctor who attended to the incident.

Reports suggest that the deceased was with his family, visiting the KNP at the time of the incident.

The police were notified, and their forensics team removed the body after collecting evidence at the scene. An inquest docket has been opened by the police.
