Mitsubishi’s Triton graduates to Shogun status

Mitsubishi has given its evergreen Triton the Shogun treatment, a variety of unique touches and additional functional equipment. This limited-edition model is sure to appeal to enthusiasts while continuing to offer excellent value.

“The Triton remains a top seller for Mitsubishi in South Africa,” says Jeffrey Allison, Mitsubishi SA’s general manager of marketing. “Buyers are attracted to its unique styling, excellent performance, and motorsport pedigree. And all these characteristics are now highlighted by the unique Shogun touches.”

The Shogun is based on the Triton 4×4 Automatic and is distinguished by a black front bumper and head light covers, as well as matt black front fog light covers. The roof rails are finished in a matching dark hue with a bespoke Shogun sports bar over the load bin that is finished with a tonneau cover and tailgate lock. The rear lights feature similar matt-black covers, and a tow bar is fitted as standard. A matching nudge bar is available as an optional extra.

“Legendary off-road capability amplified”

The Triton is well known for its go anywhere off-road capability, and Mitsubishi says that is further amplified by the fitment of Dunlop A/T 265/60R18 all-terrain tyres to the black alloy wheels.

The Triton’s off-road capability is underpinned by Mitsubishi’s legendary Super Select II four-wheel-drive system that ensures surefooted driving across any surface. The system instantaneously transfers power to the wheels with grip. Selectable off-road mode maximises traction by offering a variety of modes including Gravel, Mud/Snow or Sand when in 4hLc to suit surface conditions and optimise engine output, transmission settings and braking for superior traction. Rock mode can be engaged in 4LLc. The Triton boasts 220mm of ground clearance, approach and departure angles of 31 and 29 degrees respectively, and a 25-degree ramp breakover angle.

Tried and tested features at its core

The Triton Shogun is powered by Mitsubishi’s 2,4-litre DOHC MIVEC diesel engine that delivers 133kW at 3 500rpm and 430Nm at 2 500rpm through a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission that features Intelligent Shift Control.

“This combination ensures a driving experience and power delivery that it is just right and always in the sweet spot, ensuring effortless performance as a daily driver, workhorse or overlanding companion, along with frugal fuel consumption,” adds Allison.

Infotainment improvements

Mitsubishi says the Triton’s interior “offers a great combination of a robust design finished with high-quality materials across all touch points”. In the Shogun a comprehensive interior specification is bolstered by the fitment of a Sony car audio system complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functionality.
