Two foreigners arrested for possession of drugs worth R53 million
A stop-and-search operation conducted by Kaapmuiden police and the Komatipoort dog unit on Tuesday resulted in a major bust where 58 plastic bags containing 53kg of crystal methamphetamine were found in a Gauteng-registered car.
The drugs have a street value of about R53.
The recovery at the Nkomazi Toll Plaza led to the arrest of two Mozambican nationals, Reginald Francisco De Maura Tomàs (32) and Reginaldo Joào Tomàs (30).
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala says police dogs found the drugs that had been concealed in different compartments of the vehicle that the suspects had been travelling in.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle has not been reported as stolen.
Both men made a brief appearance in Barberton magistrate’s court yesterday and were remanded in custody for a second appearance in the Lows Creek magistrate’s court today.
