Traffic officer killed by truck near Middelburg

A Mpumalanga traffic officer lost his life when he was hit by a truck along the N4 toll road last night at around 19:30.

UPDATE: The truck driver was arrested and charged with culpable homicide.

Gijimane July Nkabinde (57) was on duty at the Middelburg weighbridge and was directing the truck that hit him to the weighbridge when the accident happened.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this accident is already underway.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has sent his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of Nkabinde. 

He has called on Nkabinde’s colleagues not to be discouraged by this incident. He says they should rather continue working harder to deal with errant drivers.
