Thousands of vehicles stopped since the start of the festive season in Mpumalanga
Provincial traffic law enforcement officers have since the beginning of December stopped over 84 000 vehicles in various operations across the province.
About 26 000 vehicles went through various weigh bridges.
A total of 35 drivers were arrested for reckless driving and 24 of those were arrested for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol.
More than 15 000 traffic fines were issued to motorists for various offences. Nearly 250 vehicles were discontinued and 600 impounded.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Maci, says he is satisfied with the level of law-enforcement visibility in the province.
“Our law enforcement officers and emergency personnel will continue to work around the clock to save lives on the road,” Macie added.
He once again implored motorists to drive cautiously and obey the rules of the road.
Meanwhile traffic peaked significantly on most roads with some roads recording over 4 500 vehicles per hour yesterday afternoon.
