Residential properties still high priority for criminals

The prevalence of residential break-ins in Nelspruit is still high and it seems that Sonheuwel is currently a popular target for burglars.

Johan Visser of Techno Security Force in Nelspruit says it remains the responsibility of every homeowner to protect his own property.

“The services of a security company to protect your property is not as expensive as you may think and it will give you and your family peace of mind to know that there are professionals looking out for you and your property,” he says.

On the positive side, crime where the perpetrator has physical contact with the victim – such as robberies at business properties, car hijacking and robberies with a firearm – seems to have shown a downturn in the first half of May.

However, says Visser, the hijacking of cargo vehicles is still a crime that is regularly reported.

“This is a big concern and companies with vehicles on the roads have to be extra vigilant,” he says. “In the same vein, vehicles that carry money are also very vulnerable. There is always a risk of information flowing from your own company to the criminal. Our advice to these business owners is to speak to their security providers and determine a way to protect their employees, goods and vehicles.”
