R40 road between Barberton and Mbombela closed following a fatal collision
The R40 between Barberton and Mbombela is currently closed following a collision between an articulated truck and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that happened this afternoon.
According to Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi four people, the driver of the SUV and three occupants, including a child, were killed on impact, and were burnt beyond recognition when the vehicles caught fire. The driver of the truck was also injured.
Emergency personnel and law enforcement agencies are currently at the scene.
Motorists travelling between Mbombela and Barberton are advised to do so via R38 leading to Kaapmuiden.
The cause of the crash remains unclear.
