Petrol will cost more and diesel slightly less from Wednesday

Although there were indications earlier in January that the fuel price might drop quite a bit in February, the rising international fuel prices also affected us in South Africa.

From midnight tonight, the price of petrol will increase by 28c per litre. Diesel with a sulphur content of 50ppm, however, will cost 1c per litre less.

The average international prices for petrol, diesel and illumination paraffin rose and, although the rand strengthened to the US dollar, the exchange rate’s contribution to the basic fuel price was too small for a price reduction – except for 50ppm diesel.

A new slate levy of 17,54c per litre will be introduced from 1 February.

The retail price of illuminating paraffin will increase by 78c per litre. The retail price for LP gas increases by R1,40 per kilogram.
