One construction worker dead and another seriously injured in West Acres
An employee of a sub-contractor died, and another was seriously injured in an accident at a building site in Safubi Close in West Acres, Nelspruit, this morning when a wall collapsed on them.
The project management company on the site immediately called Emer-G-Med’s ambulance service to attend to the two workers.
“On arrival, we found that one worker had already succumbed to his injuries,” says Martin Jeffery, operational manager of Emer-G-Med. “The other worker had sustained multiple injuries, and we transported him to Mediclinic.”

According to Henk Pieters of SSI, project managers of the construction site, they immediately went to the construction site when they were informed of the accident.
“We immediately called an ambulance and then reported the accident to our safety consultants as well as the Department of Labour. All work has been stopped and the construction site has been closed until further notice. We are now waiting for the police and the labour department to perform their investigations.”
When myLOWVELD.net visited the construction site at 12:30, the deceased worker’s remains had not been removed yet, because the police had not been to the site.
