Nkomazi local municipal councillor gunned down at his home

An ANC ward councillor in the Nkomazi area, Thabo Ngwenya, was gunned down in his house in Mangweni near Komatipoort yesterday evening.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Four men wearing balaclavas entered his home and shot the 35-year old Ngwenya twice before they assaulted his wife and made off with their cell phones and a charcoal-coloured Toyota Hilux GD-6 bakkie. 

Ngwenya was an ANC ward councillor in the Nkomazi local municipality and also the chairperson of the public accounts committee.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the motive for the killing has not yet been established and no one has been arrested.

Police asked anyone with information to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or to send information via the MySAPS app. All information will be treated as confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
