Nelspruit and surrounds bracing for a day of transport disruption

The Nelspruit security joint-operation centre warned that taxi associations are planning to block all the major Buscor routes from early tomorrow morning.

John Meintjes of ACS Security, as a representative of the Nelspruit security JOC, says they have received the information that three, possibly more, taxi associations are involved. According to reports the protest action will start at around 03:00.

“From what we understand, the taxi associations want Buscor to only provide passenger transport services during the peak hours of the morning and afternoon,” says Meintjes.

Apparently, the taxi associations feel that would be a fairer distribution of business between the bus company and taxi fleets.

Earlier today, Pieter Swanepoel Attorneys, on behalf of Buscor, applied for a court order forbidding the taxi associations from interfering in any of Buscor’s operations. The first and second respondents in the application are Mr Skhumbuzo Mbuyane, secretary of the Ehlanzeni Business Forum, and the Mpumalanga Business Forum.

The interdict was granted. The interdict does not forbid mass action or protest, but just stipulates that interference in the company’s operations is forbidden.

Employers are advised to be prepared for employees that may not be able to reach their places of work.

It is understood that the Top Star, White-Hazy and Bushbuckridge taxi associations are involved, but myLOWVELD.net has been unable to get confirmation of this from the associations.

This is ridiculous. Everyone is still struggling to get where they were before covid. Especially small businesses. These transport issues are crippling the already crippled economy further. How will a one day disruption change anything for the better???? And there own people lose a days income. Absolutely APAULLING!!!!!

We thought there is democracy in this country but these idiots are 😳 us with their stupid demands. The commuters have a right to choose the mode of transport they wish to use.

People decide themselves which transportation they want. No time to be treated badly by outside taxi owners from outside South Africa.
