According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, a group of armed suspects attempted to rob a shop at ka-Gudlane. They placed explosives in front of the door that exploded and enabled them to gain entry to the business premises.
The owner reportedly summoned his security company. Upon their arrival, the robbery was still in progress and the suspects are said to have fired at the security personnel. Security guards returned fire and shot and killed two suspects, one of which died at the scene while another died about 500 metres away from the crime scene.
The other suspects are still at large.
