According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, police received a report of a possible drowning in the Crocodile River at about 14:00 on Thursday.

It had been reported that two males – a prophet and a traditional healer – were at the river praying and performing rituals when the traditional healer disappeared under the water.

The prophet went to the traditional healer’s house to report this, and then went with the traditional healer’s wife to the police station to report the incident.
The police diving unit started searching for the body on Thursday. The body was retrieved yesterday at around 12:00.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has appealed to the community to be extra careful while conducting rituals or baptism activities.
