The first weekend belonged to the girls, with 26 U15 and U17 teams making this year’s edition the biggest yet. Schools travelled from across the province, including Standerton, Secunda, Komatipoort, Ligbron, Bergvlam, Curro, and Nelspruit Hoërskool, to compete in what has become a highlight on the school hockey calendar.

Spectators were spoiled with fast-paced clashes and finals that went down to the wire. In the end, Hoërskool Nelspruit celebrated victory in the U15 division, while Ligbron Academy took top honours in the U17 category.

The following weekend it was the boys’ turn to light up the turf, and Hoërskool Nelspruit stamped their authority in style, claiming both the U15 and U17 titles. Matches stretched late into Friday evenings, adding a charged atmosphere as fans packed the stands to cheer on their schools.

With gift bags, spot prizes, festive crowds, and plenty of hockey talent on display, the Belgotex Mpumalanga 5s once again showcased the spirit of competition and community that makes this tournament so special.
