The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has received a clean audit report from the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) for the third consecutive year.

Mpumalanga residents encouraged to travel more during annual Parks Week

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) will offer the public free access to selected nature reserves during the annual Parks Week from 9 to 13 September.

The Parks Week initiative is celebrated annually in September to encourage local tourists to travel more and explore the various tourism attractions on offer.

“We want to encourage the public and school groups to take advantage of this opportunity to explore the diverse fauna and flora found in the province. Access to the 12 selected nature reserves will be free. This initiative is strictly for day visitors and accommodation will be charged at normal rates,” says Justus Mohlala, acting CEO of the MTPA. 

The following nature reserves will take part in the Mpumalanga Parks Week initiative:

  • Andover Nature Reserve
  • Barberton Nature Reserve
  • Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve
  • Kromdraai Camp
  • Loskop Dam Nature Reserve
  • Mahushe Shongwe Nature Reserve
  • Manyeleti Nature Reserve
  • Mkhombo Nature Reserve
  • Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve
  • Ohrigstad Dam Nature Reserve
  • Songimvelo Nature Reserve
  • SS Skosana Nature Reserve

Visitors have to present their South African identity documents or valid South African driver’s licences to gain access to these reserves. Visitors must contact the central reservations office on reservations@mtpa.co.za for group bookings.
