Local family reaches out to children in need
A local couple, Mahesh and Radha Srini, recently joined hands with family and friends to donate groceries to the Joy home-based care drop-in centre in Kabokweni.
The group also spoiled the nearly 65 small children at the centre with pizza, snacks and juice.
“We want to thank Roman’s Pizza Nelspruit for donating the pizzas. It was a truly beautiful day and we really made a difference in the lives of these children,” Radha said.
The centre provides children with one meal a day and helps them with their homework.
“There is always a need for groceries, stationery, foldable tables and so on,” Radha says.
The centre is also in need of first-aid kits, soup-kitchen essentials, office equipment, seeds for the vegetable garden, skilled volunteers to work with the children, and cash donations.
The Joy Centre was established in 2001 by a group of 69 community-based women, who were touched by the needs of people in the community living with illnesses such as HIV/Aids and tuberculosis. With the help of local clinics it assists orphans, vulnerable children and child-headed households.
Organisations and individuals who can assist the centre in any way can contact Radha on 082 703 2767.
The Joy home-based care drop-in centre is a registered non-profit organisation.
