Local chef takes up the pan to create awareness of autism
Local chef Cindy Coetzee has challenged herself to bake 15 000 pancakes in 30 days – from 21 August to 23 September – to raise awareness of autism.
The pancakes will be on sale at R50 for ten pancakes. A portion of the money raised with the pancake sales will go to the Indigo Smiles Autism Foundation.
By Tuesday she had already baked more than 600 pancakes.
Cindy is the force behind Indigo Smile Autism Foundation, which she started to assist families affected by autism. Her own son, Troyden (10), is also autistic.

During her journey to help her child, Cindy, as a qualified chef, realised how important nutrition and diet is in the treatment of people – especially children – living with autism. Through a process of trial and error she has learned what works for her child and what does not.
Through the Indigo Smile Autism Foundation she now helps other families by sharing her research and knowledge. About 200 families have so far been touched by the foundation one way or another.
To raise money to fund her work, she also sells educational toys such as building blocks and playdough.
“All donations of paint, wood and fabric, and beads for bean bags will be very much appreciated,” she says.
Cindy’s biggest dream is to one day be able to set up a developmental, learn and play centre where autistic children can make progress in an environment that is specifically designed for them.
Indigo Smiles Autism Foundation is a non-profit company and can provide a Section 18A certificate for donations.
If you want to support this very special initiative, you can find her at CARtime Mbombela or order your pancakes by contacting her on 083 765 1080.
