Local artist offers original pencil sketch to help depression and anxiety group

Visual artist Donovan Willis of Donovan Willis Fine Art is offering one of his original pencil sketches to be auctioned in aid of the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG).

The A3 sketch is of an oak tree, which, Willis says, symbolises growth, resilience, and good health, reflecting his personal journey with mental-health challenges.

“SADAG does incredible work, offering a suicide crisis line, mental health support for healthcare workers, and helping students with personal struggles. This cause is very close to my heart, and I believe it makes a positive impact on society,” he says.

The auction is hosted on the Donovan Willis Fine Art Facebook page and closes on Wednesday 10 October at 12:00. The winner of the auction will be contacted via WhatsApp.

“We will cover courier costs nationwide, ensuring all proceeds go directly to SADAG,” he says.

Willis grew up in the Lowveld and finished matric at Lowveld High where he had art as a subject. After travelling the world, he came back to Nelspruit just over three years ago.

He enjoys painting wildlife, realism, anatomy, and abstract art and also teaches art.
