First-ever car-sit event in Nelspruit raises R75 000 for Cansa
The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) in Mpumalanga managed to raise a whopping R75 000 with its first car sit-in at i’langa Mall in Nelspruit.
Riaan van den Bergh, Cayla Janse van Vuuren of Unigrad College, Daniella Bantjes, Ethan Koorts, Henri Gouws of i’langa Mall, Jessica Prim, Coenie Naude of Radio Laeveld, and Blake Linder of Laevelder gave up their spring weekend to spend it stuck in a car to raise money for a worthy cause.
The eight were divided into two teams of four and each team spent 24 hours in a car sponsored by Mahindra Nelspruit. To make it more interesting, a number of well-known Lowvelders were “locked” in the boot of the car and had to convince friends, family and colleagues to “bail them out”, with all of the “bail money” going to Cansa.
Rinella Jansen van Vuuren of Cansa described the event as a huge success and thanked the sponsors and all the participants in the event.
“Our heartfelt thanks goes to Mahindra Nelspruit for the sponsorship of the vehicle, i’langa Mall for the venue and sponsorship, Bondipix Embroidery and Screen Printing and Rieba Clothing for the shirts and drinking cups, Southern Sun for goodie bags and sponsorship, Mopani Pharmacy for goodie bags and Wimpy, Milky Lane, Cappuccinos, Salsa and Panarottis who supplied the meals for the car-sitters.”
She also thanked the Cansa committee for their enthusiastic participation in the event.
